My name is Zafirah Mohamed Zein and travel is one of the great loves of my life. I am currently a student at Northeastern University in Boston, where I am studying International Affairs and Journalism. My parents live in Dubai, which I regard as one of my few homes. I am, however, a native of Singapore and I owe my love for spice, neighborhood charm and cultural diversity to this little island.
My dream is to be a journalist, traveling to and documenting stories from the furthest edges of the globe. I love photography and writing, which explains my desire to share and tell stories, especially those that are lesser known or forgotten. I used to say, I want to know the story of every one, and every thing. I have an affinity for paths less taken and remote locations that offer me different worlds from the cities I grew up in. That being said, I also appreciate the underground soul and hustle of cities. I enjoy observing urban life go by and exploring social issues.
Besides travel, I am passionate about international development and human rights. I also love exploring and seeking knowledge of art, religion and politics. My academic concentration is the fascinating region of the Middle East, although of course, I love learning about other parts of the world and their people as well.
I am constantly in seek of adventure, truth and human connection. Rural or nomadic ways of living speak most to me, and I love anything with a sense of history or tradition. Fresh dirt under my feet is always welcomed and I feel the most content when I'm carrying all I need on my back!
